That was a nice adventure, it seemed to do well for what you went through.

Another tip always rub grease on your drill bit that way most ot the shavings will stick to your drill bit instead of falling into the engine.

Just another idea. When racing with Briggs/Tec engines using a pulse type fuel pumps, we use the side cover & get the pulse from the engine crankcase. That way we do not have issues with possible air leaks effecting the carbs response & you get more pulses to the pump for better fuel flow. Thou Briggs has an upper oil threaded hole we put a screw -in adapter. But older style engine, we pull the covers & on the top area of the side cover , we drill & tap a hole for a threaded/hose fitting to run to the pump. I looked up the side cover for the Kohler CH-395, there is actually a casting boss area above the crank that was made to be drilled & tapped for a pulse(seen a used side cover on ebay with the hose & hole). So a person with some minor small engine experience, could just pull the side over & drill & tap, then reinstall with a new side cover gasket. Then run their pulse to the pump. Just mount the pulse fuel pump above the crank side of the block, with the pulse side of the pump facing down & a short hose over to the port on the side cover. That way any slight oil in the port will go back into the crankcase.

That MRE is about the worst one you could even get they are alot better than that
